We’re helping launch a beautiful magazine this Friday, so do come on out!

About the show:
Launch of Four Minutes to Midnight Issue 11: Happy Hour by FA Nettelbeck
Friday, April 22nd @ Cabaret Playhouse (5656 ave. du Parc)
Doors 9PM, $8 door/$15 with a copy of the issue

“…but what more could / you expect when you’re / the last of your kind / living amongst the / incompetent others / in the light they waste”

Four Minutes to Midnight is proud to announce the publication of its eleventh issue. The double issue features Happy Hour, the final collection of work by American poet FA Nettelbeck (1950-2011), lavishly illustrated by Montreal-based visual artist Sohie Jodoin, and Fugue XI, an epic typographic cut-up poem edited by John W. Stuart, Kevin Lo, Hillary Rexe and Sara McCulloch.

Tourists

We had a lovely time last week at The Music Gallery in Toronto with Cigarettes and Loom. Like good tourists, we snapped photos of the artist friendly venue to share with ya. Apologies to those who were planning on going to our show here in Montreal on Sunday, which we had to cancel due to illness!

Wonderful filmmaker & artist

Gotta love those squat Anglican churches!

Knights are so classic rock.

1. An unreleased track of ours called Seed is on this week’s Midnight Poutine podcast. Check it!

2. Google Earth images of bridges, from Debbie So: “Back to Google Earth – for some reason when they try to capture bridges, everything get’s distorted and you end up with this surreal landscape. The phenomenon is beautifully documented by in their series, Postcards from Google Earth: Bridges.”

3. Two shows, one tonight for Cigarettes in Toronto– we’re on at 7:30! …And the other here in Montreal on Sunday for Code Pie. Both early shows!

Our live set, three really new tunes, Hills Are In Sight + Strange Dream + Grasslands:

Our last radio show for the CKUT Montreal Sessions is today and we’re the featured band! We’ve been absolutely loving our residency at the radio station and today we’ll be premiering new, unreleased songs of ours recorded at Digital Bird Studios as well as a pre-taped live set of even newer tunes recorded at CKUT last weekend.  Then we’ll have a heart to heart about ’em on air.  Listen on-line (ckut.ca) or tune your radio to 90.3FM here in Montreal between 3-5pm.  If you can’t tune in at that time be sure to visit our website afterward for links to the archive of the show!

So we’re playing this y’all! Next Thursday in Tronna. Have a listen to tunes by the wonderful Cigarettes and come early- 7pm!!

Sick Friend are unintentionally elusive, having worked intensely on an album’s worth of tunes over the past year only to throw them out in order to re-record them next month! But here they are, as part of the March Montreal Sessions. They played an excellent live set, which you can listen to below, and then stuck around to answer some of our questions.

In the first hour of the show we DJed an almost all-Canadian set including tunes from Brave Radar, Parlovr, The Besnard Lakes, Coulees, Starvin’ Hungry, Braids, Shapes & Sizes, Lhasa, Maximilien Bouchard and lots more! Have a listen to the whole show in the CKUT archives (March 22nd 2011).

Next week’s show is our last as hosts of the March edition of the CKUT Montreal Sessions and we’ll be the band featured. Do tune in on the 29th between 3-5pm to have a listen! We’ll be playing lots of our new tunes and the like- we’re so excited!

The fourth show of the March edition of the Montreal Sessions is today and the band we’re hosting is Sick Friend! Tune into CKUT 90.3FM in Montreal between 3-5pm to listen to the twosome play live, chat and help DJ tunes. If yer not in Montreal, listen along on-line by visiting ckut.ca.
