Pour

Work by Holton Rower

Three ways to pour.

1. Pour yourself a glass of something strong for St. Patrick’s Day; if the day means nothing to you, celebrate it as the day Montrealers try to coax springtime into the city.

2. Pour some cash into the coffers of Japanese communities who need it. Fixture Records have something excellent going on. From their website:

For the next month, we will be donating 100% of download sales on our website to the Miyagi Prefecture in Japan to help with their relief efforts.

DOWNLOAD ALBUMS AVAILABLE:

Dirty Beaches – Bird EP »  Listen / Download
Dirty Beaches – Seaside EP »  Listen / Download
Postcards – self-titled cassette »  Listen / Download

  • All downloads cost $5 CAN
  • We can process payments using paypal or credit card
  • After checkout, you will be automatically re-directed to a page to download a zip file containing the mp3s and album art

Our friends at Big Love Records in Harajuku, Tokyo will forward your donations to the Miyagi government to allocate as necessary. They believe that sending donations directly to the local regional council will have the fastest and most efficient result.

If you already have these titles and would still like to contribute, you can make a simple donation through Big Love and/or order records and merch marked “charity” in theironline shop.

More about Holton Rower’s Pour series right here.

Martin Horn (Cotton Mouth) and Mikey Bwickers (Mixylodian/Asthma Camp) were righteous on today’s edition of The Montreal Sessions! The two collaborated on three cover tunes, executed with the help of a saxophone, some backing tracks, a pretty blue guitar and Martin’s pipes. Have a listen to their live set:

We interspersed the live tunes with some great conversation about making music in montreal, Martin’s recording studio Digital Bird Studios, touring, the lunar perigee and loads more, as well as listened to songs by Gobble Gobble, Purity Ring, Mixylodian, Sick Friend, Cotton Mouth and more. Have a listen right here (March 15th) for the whole show.

Thanks again to Mark and Joe of CKUT for teching the live set!

Tune in next week to catch Sick Friend!

Lunar Perigee

via a little ship of dreams

From Tumblr:

Biggest full moon in 19 years this Saturday.

On the 19th of March the full moon will reach a point called the ‘lunar perigee’ – the point in the lunar cycle when the moon is closest to Earth. This time around the perigee will be the closest one to earth since 1992, at a distance of 221,567 miles.

The full moon could appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter in the sky, especially when it rises on the eastern horizon at sunset or is provided with the right atmospheric conditions.

Be on the lookout fellow stargazers!!!”

Reversing Falls were a helluva lot of fun on yesterday’s edition of The Montreal Sessions! If you missed the show, don’t fret, you can it via the archives (their live set starts at 48min. 47sec, interview is later in the second hour). The live set is also embedded below. These gents have well-crafted tunes replete with “sick tones, sweet riffs and fresh beats” and their banter is pretty witty tune.

You should listen to the whole two hours when you have a chance, we played tunes by Ancient Kids, Cotton Mouth, new tUnE-yArDs, Patti Smith, Marnie Stern and a whole lot more, plus we kicked off the show with some Sleater-Kinney and a short spoken piece dedicated to International Women’s Day, which was yesterday, the 8th of March.

Thanks again to Mark and Joe of CKUT for teching the live set!

Tune in next week to catch Martin Horn of Cotton Mouth!
