30 Helens agree: NW have faces for radio!

On our last show in the CKUT Montreal Sessions series we:

  • DJ-ed good music like The Luyas, Blue Hawaii, Delicate Steve, Mavo, Dirty Projectors, Deerhoof, Tomboyfriend, Rah Rah, Exuma, Sun City Girls, Chad VanGaalen, Ludella Black, Bill Callahan, Little Scream and many more
  • Played three live tunes we recorded last weekend
  • Played three more tunes we recorded in late summer and fall, two of which had been previously unheard eva!

Thanks to AJ, Marc, Joe, Sarah and Kara at CKUT!

Check out the entire show right here courtesy of the CKUT archives: March 29th 2011.

Our live set, three really new tunes, Hills Are In Sight + Strange Dream + Grasslands:

I loooove dance, and So You Think You Can Dance is gearing up to be one hell of a season (Ade & Kayla, FTW!).  Some (A & J) will make fun of me for this, but I kinda wish that one day Nightwood will have a music video with choreographed dancing.  Sunken Mountains??  K, maybe not.

A year or so ago, Montreal-based musician Alden Penner (Clues) teamed up with filmmaker Brett Story to create a political film with lots of sweet tunes and street dance in order to best explore the plight of church-bound refugee Abdelkader Belaouni. It’s called The Visible Will vs. The Invisible Wall. So yeah, dance can be super powerful!

But here are some dance videos that are pretty cool.  There are so many, of course, so do share some and I’ll update the post!

(excuse the lame-ass lyrics all over the video… like anyone needs to be able to read “Wham! Bam!” along with the music…)

Thanks for friendly suggestions!

This is the “other” NW lady!

While we’re on the topic of personal style, I’d like to say that I made some awesome Frip scores yesterday during the Wellington street sale in Verdun, on now through the weekend.  Can you say silver jumpsuit, anyone??  Much like Feist’s blue sparkly onesie from 1-2-3-4.

Where I plan on wearing this gem is undecided.  But if anyone’s throwing a space party, I’m set!

And in space, are you listening to Dirty Projectors?  Perhaps.  Listen to the new album Bitte Orca here.  I’m especially liking the Mariah Carey-esque vocal stylings on “Stillness is the Move.”

As we get ready to start booking a fall tour, this month’s Exclaim! has a good section about what to remember before hitting the road.  Especially poignant: avoiding disastrous van break-in situations in Montreal.  Can we all stop breaking into each other’s vans?

Uh, I mean, I totally don’t have the Pack A.D.’s stuff at my place…
